National PEC Training Committee
National PEC Training Committee
The National PEC Training Committee (NPTC) was established in 2018 to develop and uphold the professional standards of care of paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) to safeguard a good standard of care and the safety of patients. NPTC comprises members from the Unit for Pre-hospital Emergency Care (UPEC), the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and various PEC training providers.
The aims of NPTC includes:
-
To promote professional development and standards for PEC officers through regular review of core competencies; establishment of a system of continuous education; and vetting and evaluation of foreign-trained paramedics.
-
To promulgate good training standards by establishing a system to evaluate training providers seeking to provide EMT or paramedic training or recertification programmes; benchmarking against international training standards; and the development of a national system of competency assessment for EMTs and Paramedics.
-
To oversee the development of a robust professional accreditation framework for EMTs and paramedics, with the long term goal to establish paramedicine as a recognised profession.
